Pablo Picasso was the most prolific and influential artist of the 20th century, co-founder of Cubism, and creator of works that forever changed how we see and represent the world.
Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) is the most celebrated artist of the 20th century. Over a career spanning eight decades, he produced more than 20,000 works across painting, sculpture, ceramics, drawing, and printmaking -- transforming each medium he touched.
With French artist Georges Braque, Picasso invented Cubism around 1908, fragmenting objects into multiple viewpoints simultaneously. This revolution in representation influenced virtually every art movement that followed.
His Blue Period (1901-1904) and Rose Period (1904-1906) established him as a major figure. Guernica (1937), his response to the bombing of a Basque town during the Spanish Civil War, is widely considered the most powerful anti-war painting in history.
